U14 White Advances to Premier Division of MRL

Undefeated Season Leads to League Promotion

The U14 White team finished their MRL league season this Fall with a perfect 7-0 record.  As such, they will be promoted to the Premier Division in the spring where they will have the opportunity to automatically qualify for regionals.

The Midwest Regional League consists of teams from all over our 13 state region.  This Fall the girls played teams from Ohio North, Ohio South and Kentucky in an effort to earn promotion.  The Premier division in the spring will include the top two teams in each First division competition and the next best two teams.  Obviously the competition will be even stiffer but their coach Mike Aubry thinks they are up to it.

“These kids have a remarkable sense of how to compete as a team.  We aren’t ever bigger, faster or even more talented than the good teams we play.  However the girls as a team are amazing.  We gave up 2 goals in our first MRL game.  Afterwards we had a meeting about that and I told them that we couldn’t give up that many goals and expect to win this league.  They answered with 6 consecutive shutouts.  That’s a tribute to their sense of how to play the game as a team and how they always rise to the challenge.  I cannot wait to see them play at the very highest level our region has to offer. “

Bracketing will occur shortly and then the teams involved will begin to hammer out a schedule for the spring.  The girls are excited to find out who they play and eager to have the schedule in front of them so they can begin to prepare.  Having the dates makes it real as the girls strive to return to regionals after winning state cup last year.  The honor of playing in the premier league is a first for the club who has participated in MRL for several years.

“It’s really not an easy task to achieve at this level.  Not even 60 teams from 13 states get into MRL at all.  Then you have to earn results to indicate that your team belongs in the very top percentile of those teams in order to make the premier division.  It’s really extraordinary what these girls have done and it’s the first time any team from our club has made it to this level.” Says Mike.

The girls will continue to train through November and then take some time in December to heal and rest.  In January they begin training for their spring season, their first in the premier division.
